Sochi 2014:slopestyle final

Thorgren narrowly misses out on medal

So near yet so far. Sweden's Sven Thorgren missed out on winning the first bronze medal of the Sochi 2014 games as he finished fourth in the first ever men's snowboard slopestyle final at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park.

Sage Kotsenburg of the USA claimed the first gold medal of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. Staale Sandbach of Norway took the silver medal, with Canada's Mark McMorris winning bronze. Thorgren was awarded 87.50 points from the judges for his second and final run but it was not enough as he was pipped for a medal at the end.

Charlotte Kalla begins Sweden's strong challenge in the cross-country events as she competes in the skiathlon, 7.5 km + 7.5 km at 11 a.m.
