Sweden continues to be an atrractive place for foreign tourists particularly for those from outside of Europe. The Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth (Tillväxtverket) reports that growing prosperity in countries such as China, India and Brazil has been reflected in the number of tourists from those places coming to Sweden.

It was a record year for Chinese visitors with 190,000 overnight stays in 2013 while there was double the amount of Indian tourists compared to 2010.

Taken overall, the number of overnight stays by foreigners increased by 1.1 percent in 2013, to 12.9 million. Scandinavian tourists were harder to attract, with a drop of 7 percent in Danish visitors, perhaps due to the currency rates between the two countries. Hotel nights, accommodation in hostels, camping grounds, in rented cottages and apartments - all included in the statistics.
