Father charged for killing his children

A father suspected of killing his children in a house fire in Dalarö last autumn was charged on Thursday with murder, attempted murder and arson. Two of the children died in the fire while a third managed to survive.

The prosecution alleges that on 29 September, the 40-year-old father set fire to a house in order to kill his sleeping children, two boys aged three and five and a seven year old girl. The prosecution stated Thursday that the attack was mainly motivated by revenge against the mother following a recent separation.

The oldest girl survived the fire escaping from the burning house. Her two brothers died from smoke inhalation. The man admits that he set fire to the house and did it to take the lives of his children.

A huge manhunt was launched after the fire and the father was later arrested on the island of Öland. He was arrested on probable cause, the strongest degree of suspicion, for two counts of murder, arson and attempted murder.

The main hearing will be held in the Södertörn District Court between 18 and 20 February.
