Man arrested over attempted bank robberies

Police arrested a man attempting to rob a branch of the state run alcohol chain Systembolaget in Stockholm shortly before 4 p.m. Friday and immediately tied him to two attempted bank robberies earlier in the day, writes aftonbladet.se.

"He is now held on suspicion of two attempted aggravated robberies," said Sven-Erik Olsson at the Stockholm police. The suspect is aged between 25-30 years old.

A branch of the Handelsbanken bank in the Stockholm suburb of Farsta was evacuated on Friday afternoon after a bomb threat during an attempted robbery. It later emerged that a suspect package left by the robber contained no explosive.

Several hours earlier, a man was inside at Forex Bank Klarabergsgatan in central Stockholm. He behaved threateningly and left a package behind. It could not be ruled out that it contained no explosive as the office and the adjacent shops were evacuated and traffic in parts of Klarabergsgatan turned off. After the bomb technician looked at the package, it was deemed safe and the cordon was lifted.
