"Rain, sleet and snow are coming in over Sweden. The snow is pretty heavy and wet so we may get slush and grit here," meteorologist Linnea Rehn told news agency TT.
Rehn added that the harsh weather was affecting western Sweden on Saturday morning but could sweep across the rest of the country later in the day and overnight.
The weekend brings harsh winds to the coastlines and the northern mountain region. In the north, traffic disruptions were expected and the snowfall there looked set to continue on Sunday. Partially cloudy skies and rain were predicted for the south.
