Construction union scraps collective agreement

The construction workers' union, Byggnads, has decided to cancel its collective agreement with the Swedish Construction Federation, opening the way for strike action.

The union wants a new agreement where employers will also take responsibility if sub-contractors do not pay their employees wages, but the federation says that would not be legally sustainable.

The union claims the measure would rid the industry of less serious employers.
