Sweden misses out on curling gold

Sweden missed out on a hat-trick of Winter Olympic gold medals in women's curling as Canada avenged defeat in Vancouver 2010 with a 6-3 victory in Sochi, Thursday.

The Canadians ended a 16-year wait for gold after receiving two steal points in the ninth to go ahead 6-3 and then defended out the 10th end.

In a drab final, Sweden missed out on a great opportunity for four points - and a 5-3 lead - in the fifth end when Maria Prytz failed to make a clean double takeout.

It capped a miserable day for Sweden after the women's hockey team missed out on bronze medal to the Swiss while one of the country's big gold medal hopes, Victor Öhling-Norberg crashed out of the quarter-finals in the men's skicross event.
