Bäckström: "I followed doctor's recommendation"

Swedish ice hockey star Nicklas Bäckström, accused of doping during the Olympics, put the blame on his doctor during a press conference on Tuesday.

He says everyone who lives in Washington knows how difficult it is for allergy sufferers, and he has taken tablets for seven years. That it has never been picked up at any other international tournaments. He says he simply followed his doctor’s recommendation, and would not answer when asked whether he, as an athlete, had responsibility for what medicine he took.

On Thursday he is expected to be in the team as the Washington Capitals play against Florida in the NHL. The Washington team’s captain and coach have expressed their support for him.
