Couple lose housing contract for jamming signals

Published onsdag 26 februari 2014 kl 18.23

A Gothenburg couple who got annoyed by people talking on cell phones have lost their housing contract.

In order to block out the noise from the café on the bottom floor of their apartment building, the couple installed a jamming transmitter, according to news agency TT.

When police raided the apartment, they found the transmitter and the couple was fined for breaking laws governing electronic communication. However, the landlord also took the case to the rent tribunal, saying that the jammer could have gotten in the way of emergency calls and thus made a difference of life or death.

The tribunal agreed, and according to the online version of the newspaper Göteborgs-Posten and the newspaper Hem & Hyra, the couple have lost their contract.
