Sweden's economy enjoys surprise spurt

Sweden's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 3.1 percent during the fourth quarter of 2013 compared with the same period the previous year.

Compared with the third quarter the GDP grew 1.7 percent, according to Statistics Sweden.

The growth was better than expected.

"Inventory investment, household expenses and public expenses led most to the growth of GDP," Statistics Sweden wrote.

In comparison the economy of neighbouring Denmark shrank by 0.5 percent in the same period, according to Bloomberg.
