Growing number of Swedes give up daily smoke

The number of Swedes who smoke on a daily basis dropped from 16 to 11 percent between 2004 and 2013, according to The Public Health Agency of Sweden.

Among women, the number of daily smokers has dropped from 19 to 11 percent and among men from 14 to 11 percent. The biggest drop in the number of smokers was among women aged 30 to 64.

Eighteen percent of Swedish men use moist snuff, or snus, every day, compared with 22 percent in 2004. Over the past decade, the number of women using snus every day has remained stable, at around three to four percent.

The national tobacco survey includes responses from 20,000 Swedes aged 16 to 84.
