Apollo Travel is to shed a third of its holiday reps, writes tabloid Aftonbladet. Most have been sent home from their resorts.

According to the company's information officer, Kajsa Moström, 50 of the 152 tour reps have been told the news. Most have already been sent home from the resorts where they would have worked during the winter season.

"Today's customers are more seasoned, more independent and have the need for another service. The travel industry is highly competitive and we have to adapt to reality," Kajsa Moström tells Aftonbladet.

The tour reps to lose their jobs are mainly Swedes and Danes, but there are also Norwegians and Finns. The change will mean that there are fewer excursions with tour guides who speak Scandinavian languages. There will be more local guides who will speak English.
