Indonesian military considering Gripen purchase

Sweden's Gripen fighter jet is one of three finalists to replace the Indonesian Air Force's fleet, according to media reports.

Newspaper Svenska Dagbladet reports that the Indonesian military is deciding between Saab's JAS 39 Gripen and fighter jets produced in Russia and the United States. China's state news agency, Xinhua, reported that it was "very likely" that the Gripen would be selected.

Saab recently signed an agreement with Brazil under which it would buy 36 fighter jets and the final assembly of the planes would take place in the South American country.
