Supermarket buys biggest pharmacy chain

The Swedish-based supermarket and grocery chain ICA is buying the biggest private drugstore chain in the country, Apoteket Hjärta, reports news agency TT.

ICA has signed a deal worth SEK 5.7 billion with the private equity firm Altor to take over Apoteket Hjärta, which includes over 300 stores.

This makes ICA Gruppen the second biggest player in the Swedish pharmacy market.

All the pharmacies in Sweden used to be state-run, but in 2009, they were deregulated, and Altor bought a cluster of them.
