Elk attacks woman in her garden - multiple injuries

A woman was taken by ambulance to hospital on Sunday afternoon after being kicked in the head and trampled on by an elk in her garden in Luleå, northern Sweden.

Late Sunday afternoon an order was given to find and kill the elk after police had gathered witness reports. News agency TT says that the elk was in the woman's garden and when she went out the back with her dog, the elk went on the attack, kicking her to the ground and then trampling her.

The woman, in her 50s, is being cared for in hospital with injuries to her face, jaw and body.
