Man hit by train while trying to rescue woman on railway tracks

A man was hit by a train Saturday night while trying to save the life of a woman who had fallen on to the tracks.

The accident happened around 1 kilometre north of the Ösmo train station outside Stockholm. When the train driver spotted the man and the woman on the tracks it was too late to avoid a collision and they were both hit.

According to the police, both the man, 54, and the woman, 41, were admitted to the Karolinska University Hospital. It is not clear whether they knew each other.
