Government budget voted down

The Swedish Parliament has voted down the red-green minority government’s budget and the Social Democrats and the Greens have announced fresh elections.

Going against tradition, after the failure of their own budget proposal, the Sweden Democrats cast their votes for the opposition Alliance budget on Wednesday.

The final vote was 153 in favor of the budget, 182 for the opposition budget.

At a press conference after the parliament vote, Prime Minister Stefan Löfven and Green Party spokesperson Gustav Fridolin announced that a snap election is to be held on march 22nd 2015.
