Shots fired as armed robbers hit currency exchange

Shots were fired at a foreign exchange bureau in Malmö on Thursday and a man was taken to hospital after being hit over the head with a gun.

The three armed robbers hit the exchange bureau on Ystadgatan at 9 o'clock and threatened staff. Initial reports say they were armed with an axe and a gun. News agency TT reports that during the robbery shots were fired both inside and outside the building and one man was knocked to the floor with a gun.

"He's been taken to hospital. We have officers there to interview him," said Stephan Söderholm of Malmö police.

The getaway car has been found by the police who are appealing for witnesses and the area has been cordoned off.

The robbery in Malmö is one of a number of similar crimes in recent months.
