Roads in parts of western and southern Sweden were covered by black ice Tuesday, leading to several motoring accidents, including pile-ups with several vehicles involved.

A number of cars were involved in a crash on the E6 south of Kungsbacka in Halland, while another pile-up on the E45 north of Gothenburg led to a woman being taken to hospital, news agency TT reports. The accidents led to long traffic jams along the affected routes.

Wet roads froze in patches overnight, police say, leading to dangerous driving conditions in places.
