New Satellite for Radio Sweden

From the first of May SR international is expanding its satellite broadcast area to include Africa via, the Arabian peninsula, Asia and Australia via the Thaicom-3 satellite.

The new satellite radio service begins after an agreement with the Thai satellite operator , Shin Satellite, SR International and Swedish television.

Satellite:                    Thaicom-3 78.5 degrees East
Footprint:                   Global Extended C Band
Frequency:                3640 MHz
Polarisation:              Horizontal
FEC:                          3/4
Symbol Rate:            28066

To listen to our broadcasts via Thaicom-3, one needs; a parabola antenna with a C-Band receiver and a decoder with built-in MPEG2/DVB compatible Viaccess module.

The great advantage with the Thaicom-3 satellite is that is its footprint for C-Band stretches over 4 continents. However, the extended range does translate to the need for a large 2.4 – 3 metre diameter parabola to receive the signals (see attached technical information)

Radio Sweden’s listeners in Europe can already enjoy Swedish Radio programming via satellite over Sirius 2. The new service via Thaicom-3 means that SR International now offers listeners crystal clear satellite transmissions across three continents!
