Plane carrying three crashes in Västerås

An airplane crashed on an island in Lake Mälaren this afternoon, but the pilot and his two passengers escaped with only minor injuries.

The single-engine passenger plane suffered a problem with its motor just after take-off. The plane crashed in a grassy field on the island of Björnön, just a few hundred meters from the Västerås airport in central Sweden.

The plane's wings were riven from its body. News agency TT reported that one passenger had complained of a head ache and another of back pains, but the passengers' injuries were considered minor.
