Sweden condemns North Korean rocket launch

Sweden's Foreign Minister Margot Wallström denounced North Korea's latest long-range rocket launch on Sunday.

In a statement, Wallström called the launch "completely unacceptable" and "a very serious violation of UN Security Council resolutions."

The test launch has been almost universally decried, even by China, North Korea's main ally.

North Korea's state television said the country placed a satellite into orbit and was "legitimately exercising the right to use space for independent and peaceful purposes".

Sweden, one of the few Western nations that has a diplomatic presence in the Hermit Kingdom, said that in the long term, "tensions on the Korean peninsula only be resolved through dialogue and negotiation."
