Stockholm-area man arrested for plotting terrorist crimes

A resident of the Stockholm area was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to commit terrorist crimes, the Swedish Security Service (Säpo) announced on their website Thursday.

Citing the prosecutor's arrest request, daily tabloid Aftonbladet reported that the man was 20 years old and from a municipality just north of Stockholm. The suspected crime was committed some time between January 1 and January 31. The man was questioned during the afternoon Monday and arrested an hour later.

The man is being held at the Attunda district court in Sollentuna, a municipality just north of central Stockholm.

"I can confirm that there is a man who has been detained at Attunda District Court," said Fredrik Milder, press secretary at the Swedish Security Service to new agency TT.

Milder would not disclose any more details about the man, the suspected crime or the circumstances of his arrest.

"I have no more information to give. We're in a stage of intensive investigation," said Milder citing secrecy because of the investigation.

The investigation is being led by Prosecutor Ewamari Häggkvist at the Swedish Prosecution Authority.
