Infantino "best man to reform FIFA": Swedish football association

"He's the best man to ... get FIFA back on track"
2:13 min

Gianni Infantino, the candidate Sweden's Football Association supported, was elected on Friday evening in Zurich, as FIFA's next president.

Infantino won enough votes, 115, in the second round of voting to secure his victory, and will succeed Sepp Blatter as the head of FIFA, the International Federation of Association Football.

"He's the best man to work to reform FIFA and get FIFA back on track and to get a better reputation for this world-leading football organization," Karl-Erik Nilsson, chair of the Swedish Football Association, told Radio Sweden, just after the election.

Nilsson said that Infantino and the council in FIFA now needs to do "immediately" is to implement a reform package that FIFA also passed today. The reform package, Nilsson explained, includes term limits for leading officials, more women in decision-making organizations in FIFA, and more economic transparency.
