Cattle Egret

Rare Feathered Visitors

Swedish birdwatchers had a hard day Thursday. Two unique or very rare visitors appeared here.

The first report came from a pond outside the southern city of Lund, of a Cattle Egret. It was only the third time one has been seen here.

No sooner had hundreds of ornithologists arrived to observe the unusual visitor when a report came in of an Amur Falcon near Kalmar, some 260 kilometers away. This is the first time this bird has been sighted in northern Europe.
