More Boys Than Girls Sell Sex

Some 800 boys and 500 girls in each high school year have sold sex. That’s according to Carl Göran Svedin - professor in child psychology at Lunds University.

Co-ordinated surveys in Sweden, the Nordic region and the Baltic States found that it’s more common for 19 year-old boys to have sold sex than girls of the same age. Researchers are assuming that the boys were selling sex to other men, as males make up the overwhelming majority of buyers of sexual services in most cases.

The surveys were city-based and found that those who prostituted themselves often had social and psychological problems.
