Swedish "Driver’s License" for Cooks?

Swedish health autorities say they are considering handing out the equivalent of driver’s licenses to those working in kitchens and at the food counters in shops and stores.

This is because of the increasing number of people in this Nordic nation coming down with food poisoning and stomach illness – even though very few bother to report their cases.

Checks here have indicated that many serving and working with food do not have enough training and education – and that many even ignore the thorough washing of hands before stirring the soup.

Some Swedish union leaders say that they would not be opposed to something like a ”food driver’s licenses” for the members – since Norway and Finland already have such a system.
