Peace research institute worried over nuclear rhetoric

Dan Smith: I do not think it will result in the use of nuclear weapons

The latest flare up between the US and North Korea is unusual, says the director of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, Dan Smith.

Sweden's world-famous peace research institute has been monitoring conflict for over 50 years.

Dan Smith says while he does not think the conflict will see the use of nuclear weapons, the fact that there is a chance is worrying.

He says rhetoric can itself have an impact, as language can create expectations which violence is used to fulfill, like in the ramping up of hatred in Rwanda.
