Swedish terror researcher: Cruelty shouldn't be a surprise

Expert: Attacks aren't comparable to brutality of ISIS's daily torture and executions.

Michael Krona, who has spent three years studying ISIS propaganda, told Radio Sweden that he is not surprised by the cruelty of yesterday's attack in Barcelona given the shocking nature of the executions displayed in the terror group's propaganda.

"The cruelty of these attacks is not really comparable to the cruelty of the staged executions and torture that they have been doing for several years now," said Krona, an assistant professor in media and communications studies at Malmö University.

"These executions go on regularly, almost on a weekly basis these days," he added.

Krona expects both the severity and frequency of ISIS-linked attacks in Europe to get worse in coming years as the group sees setbacks in its territories in Syria and Iraq.
