MEPs criticise response to Turkish arrests of Swedes

Both centre-right and Green MEPs are critical.
1:56 min

Swedish members of the EU parliament are disappointed in the government efforts to free two Swedish citizens detained by Turkey.

There is Swedish-Turkish journalist being held in Spain awaiting extradition to Turkey as well as a Swedish member of staff for Amnesty International who is being held in Turkey.

Lars Adaktusson from the Christian Democrats thinks that the very fact that the journalist is still being held in Spain shows that Sweden's Social Democratic foreign minister, Margot Wallström, has not been effective.

And from the other side, Green Party MEP Bodil Valero also thinks that Swedish government's work leaves much to be desired, saying that the lateness of the Swedish response in Spain is "not acceptable".
