Sweden's annual lobster premiere, which sees the first catch of the season sold at auction, saw the price more than double when compared to last year's.

The crustacean's price was SEK 47,000 per kilogram. Last year's price was SEK 20,000 per kilogram.

The bidders are a mix of businesses in the seafood industry.

Lars Erlandsson is the auctioneer for the Gothenburg Fish Market. He tells Radio Sweden that the high price and hype come, in part, thanks to the media and the prestige of owning the year's first lobster.

The auction serves as the unofficial kickoff for lobster season on Sweden's west coast. The season's end is right before the new year.
