Sweden has decided to prolong its temporary border checks once again, this time until the middle of May 2018.

Justice Minister Morgan Johansson (Social Democrat) told news agency TT that Sweden notified the EU Commission yesterday evening of the decision "to prolong the border checks we have in southern Sweden, especially directed towards the Öresund area and Denmark."

"We deem the security situation to be such in Europe," said Johansson, "that we need to have control over our borders, not least considering the terrorism crime that occurred in Sweden on April 7th, so it's particularly urgent that we have control over and knowledge about who is entering Sweden."
