1:22 min

The number of organ donations from deceased people in Sweden continues to rise and there were a record number of kidney donations in 2017.

A total 474 people received a new kidney in 2017, of which 188 came from deceased donors, according to the Swedish Kidney Association, citing figures from the Swedish Transplantation Society and the National Board of Health and Welfare.

However, there are regional variations, with Southern Sweden lagging behind. Additionally, other European countries continue to outperform Sweden, Håkan Hedman, chairman of the Swedish Kidney Association, tells Radio Sweden.
