Two telecom operators to merge

1:32 min

Two of the biggest operators on the Swedish telecom market have announced a merger, as broadband operator Comhem is absorbed by mobile phone company Tele2.

The combined company, which will keep the name Tele2, will become the second biggest mobile phone company and second biggest fixed broadband company in Sweden, after the former state-owned monopoly company Telia.

Taking over as CEO of the combined company will be Anders Nilsson, currently the CEO of Comhem.

The merger will need approval from shareholders, the Swedish Competition Authority and the European Commission before it can go ahead.
