Almost half of municipalities drop feathers from Easter decor

1:25 min

More than 130 municipalities are choosing not to have dyed bird feathers as part their Easter decorations this year.

With the Easter holiday this weekend, the traditional "påskris" - birch branches decorated with bird feathers dyed in different colors - can be found throughout Sweden.

But some municipalities are going feather-free.

Moa Richter Hagert is the communications manager for the animal welfare group Djurens rätt, which has pushed for the change. She welcomes the move and says local governments are choosing to use brightly-colored fabric or ribbons instead.
