Wallström says preventing Syria strike may be too late

Published fredag 13 april kl 13.58

The UN Security Council will meet again on Friday to discuss the crisis in Syria, but according to Foreign Minister Margot Wallström, it might be too late to prevent a military strike.

On Thursday, Sweden proposed that the UN secretary general send a special disarmament group to Syria to negotiate a timetable to destroy all chemical weapons there.

According to Wallström, the proposal was received positively, although no decision was made.

When asked if chemical weapons were definitely used in Syria, Wallström said that's what the Orgaisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons was trying to ascertain.
