Government eases grant rules to get young people back to school

1:18 min

The government has decided to ease the rules for the so called “studiestartstöd”, a special grant aimed at unemployed people without upper secondary school qualifications.

The grant amounts to a maximum of 8,600 kronor per month, and is supposed to motivate people who did not finish upper secondary school and have been unemployed for a long period of time to go back to studying.

The grant was introduced last summer, but few people applied, and of those who did, many had their applications denied because they did not meet the criteria.
