Fewer traditional majorities in local municipal councils.

As the speaker of parliament continued his talks with party leaders on Tuesday to try and form a new government, two-thirds of municipal councils in Sweden are experiencing a similar problem in forming traditional block-based majorities.

Radio Sweden speaks to political scientist Johan Wänström at Linköping University, who specialises in local politics.

He says the success of the Sweden Democrats has made it harder for the traditional blocks to enjoy their own majorities in municipal councils.

However, unlike at national level, he says it's easier to overcome political differences in municipal councils.
