Economics prize to be announced in Stockholm this morning

The 2018 Nobel season closes today with the 50th announcement of the  prize for economic sciences.

The Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences is not among the Nobel Foundation’s official awards for medicine, physics, chemistry, literature and peace but was established separately in 1968 by Sweden’s central bank, Sveriges Riksbank, in memory of Alfred Nobel.

Professor Paul Romer, at the Stern School of Economics in New York is one of the favourites for the prize, for his work with growth theory.

Last year's prize was given to Richard Thaler, a pioneer of behavioural economics best known for ‘nudge’ theory.

The 9-million-kronor prize will be announced in Stockholm at 11.45 at the earliest.
