Moderate leader gives up hope of Social Democrat support for Alliance government

1:01 min

Moderate party leader Ulf Kristersson says he will look at alternative ways of forming an Alliance government after giving up hope of receiving support from the Social Democrats.

At a press conference following his meeting with the speaker of parliament, Kristersson said he will continue talks with the other parliamentary party leaders in the week remaining of his allotted fortnight of talks to become Sweden's next prime minister.

"It is the Alliance's alternative options that I will discuss with my Alliance friends," Kristersson said.

He added that he does not see any prerequisites for discussing cooperation with either the Swedish Democrats or the Left Party.

Kristersson was given two weeks to try and form a government by the speaker of parliament.
