#Metoo motivated several women to report assaults

1:56 min

Swedish Radio has found 14 court cases in Sweden in which the metoo campaign against sexual harassment was explicitly mentioned.

In one case, a woman said the campaign and the stories women shared using the #metoo hashtag made her realise she had been the victim of rape when she, at the age of 15, was assaulted by a 20-year-old man.

"The Metoo movement helped motivate me to report the incident because I did it not just for my own sake but also for others," the woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, told Swedish Radio.

Other, more high-profile cases, have received a lot of media attention, such as the trial against the so-called "cultural profile". He was sentenced to two years in prison earlier this month but has appealed.
