0:58 min

The US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis has called for Yemen peace talks to take place in Sweden, and the Swedish government says they are ready to host them.

The proposal would involve the parties to the conflict and United Nations special envoy Martin Griffiths meeting in Sweden in November. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is also calling for a cease fire and talks.

Sweden's Foreign Minister Margot Wallström confirms to Swedish Radio News that they have been approached by the UN to host the meeting, and she underlines Sweden's invovlement in aiding the victims of the conflict in Yemen, which she says is one of the most serious humanitarian crises in the world now.

Yemen peace talks had been planned for September in Switzerland.
