Negotiators for the Houthi rebels are already here, having arrived on Tuesday together with UN negotiator Martin Griffiths. People from the official government of Yemen are said to be on their way. They left the Saudi capital on Wednesday, reports Reuters.
Patric Nilsson at the Swedish Foreign Ministry says the official start of the talks will happen when both sides have arrived.
No details about the negotiations have been made public by the United Nations, which leads the talks; nor by Sweden, which is host country, nor by the warring sides themselves. The Foreign Ministry says it will reveal more when the talks are ready to start.
Just getting the enemies to sit down together is something of a success, says the Foreign Ministry to Swedish Radio News. Talks had been scheduled for Switzerland in September, but failed to happen when the rebels did not show up.
