Two years of blasting begins for Stockholm's traffic hub Slussen

5:32 min

The controversial rebuild of the Slussen transit hub entered a new phase this week when construction began on a bus terminal deep inside a rocky hillside.

Blasting away thousands of tonnes of bedrock will take about 2 years. There will also be plenty of drilling, so much so that some residents above the site may need to move out temporarily.

Eva Rosman, communications manager for the Slussen project, tells Radio Sweden that the project will be a challenging one that could even be affected by geological discoveries in the rock.
