Online medical services welcome investigation

1:24 min

An investigation into online care companies' alleged high costs, lower standards and security concerns is being carried out by Inspektionen för Vård och Omsorg (IVO).

According to figures published by the Jönköping and Sörmland regions, the cost for online doctor visits was estimated at over a quarter of a billion kronor.

The investigation has been welcomed by Doktor 24, one of the largest online health companies, where people can speak to doctors directly on mobile devices through an app.

Sara Dannborg, communications chief at Doktor 24, says "Doktor 24 can provide sustainable care by increasing doctor availability without putting uncessary strain on the Healthcare system."

The government's investigator, Göran Stiernstedt, says "online care can provide an alternative to visiting a Healthcare centre, especially for those with chronic pain."
