Radio Sweden celebrates 80 years

5:52 min

It was under the shadow of war that Swedish Radio started its voice to America in 1939.

Now Radio Sweden is celebrating its 80th anniversary.

The so-called overseas broadcasts were expanded to eventually become Radio Sweden, at first in German, English, French and Swedish; and during the years you've heard us in 24 different languages at different times.

We've talked to some famous people over the years, including Astrid Lindgren and ABBA.

The head of this department within Swedish Radio News is Gaby Katz, formerly a reporter in the English group. She tells us she used to listen to Radio Sweden as a child.

Our journalism is based on credibility and impartiality. Swedish Radio is independent and not affiliated to any political, religious, financial, public or private interests.
