Children of Swedish IS sympathisers will not be brought back

Swedish authorities cannot bring home children of Swedish IS sympathisers  who are currently in camps in Syria, says Home Affairs Minister Mikael Damberg.

As the Islamic State is collapsing, camps in the region are filling up with its members and their families. Swedish Television has spoken to experts who estimate that there are 30-40 children to Swedish parents in camps in Syria.

The organisation Save the Children wants the government to bring the children to Sweden, saying that this would be the right thing to do according to the International Convention for the Child.

But Home Affairs Minister Mikael Damberg says this is not how the government interprets the convention.

The matter will be discussed in a parliamentary debate this afternoon.
