Löfven: May confirmed that talks are making progress

Prime Minister Stefan Löfven said he's relieved EU leaders have agree to delay the UK's departure from the union until the end of October.

Speaking with reporters in Brussels after a marathon meeting that ended in the early hours of Thursday morning, Löfven said the extension avoids what would have been a messy Brexit, where Great Britain leaves without an agreement dictating its future relationship with the bloc.

For the EU leaders it was important to get reassurances from Theresa May that she was making progress in securing support for an orderly exit from the Union, he said.
