Save the Children demands government action to return children of IS fighters

2:12 min

Save the Children in Sweden are pressurising the government to return the children of suspected Swedish IS terrorists in Syria.

It follows news that the seven children of Swedish-born IS recruiter Michael Skråmo and wife Amanda Gonzales have been found in northeast Syria malnourised and suffering from pneumonia.

In a letter to prime minister Stefan Löfven, Save the Children warn the government is taking far too long to take action.

Foreign minister Margot Wallström says the issue is "complicated" and it  needs time to process issues such as identity and allowing the children and their parents to come to Sweden.

It has been estimated that there are around 80 Swedish children in camps in Syria.
