Katrineholm council bans begging in town centre

Local politicians have voted for a begging ban in Katrineholm, south of Stockholm, slated to take effect August 1st.

The motion passed by 37 votes for, and 14 against, with the grand coalition of centre-left Social Democrats and centre-right Moderates supporting it, as well as the nationalist Sweden Democrat party, reports local Swedish Radio P4 Sörmland.

A December ruling by the Supreme Administrative Court has made it possible for local politicians to pass bans on begging when they cause a public disturbance.
